New Building & Reopening

Reopening Date

The new reopening date is January 31.

Building Location

The location of our new building is:
     126 E. Main Street,
      Cortez, CO 81321.

We are in the back half of the building.

This space is much smaller than our other building and therefore limits what we can offer. However, the owner has spent considerable time and money to get the space functional for us.

There is a parking lot on the west side of the building (between Tire Max and Pioneer Printing) where you can park. Entrance will be through the side door in that parking lot.

Important Information & Procedures

Because we are moving into a new building that is in conjunction with a working shop, there are some very important points of which students and parents need to be aware:

Building Procedures

Entry Codes Needed to Enter Gym

In the interest of safety and security, doors will be locked to the outside at all times. There is a entry keypad next to the door. To enter, each family will be issued an entry code. This code will be specific to that family and will be deactivated whenever that family is no longer attending classes. Please to not share this code with anyone else!! Anyone who is supposed to have access will get their own code. Just type it in and then press * to open the door.

Limited Access to Restrooms

Since the space used to be a garage bay, there are no restrooms in our space. We will have access to the restrooms in Tire Max, but there are two issues:

  • Students will have to enter the Tire Max showroom to use the restrooms and will be exposed to any customers there (not to mention using Tire Max’s supplies and making more work for them to clean.)
  • Students will have to use an entry code to enter the showroom and then again to return to the gym.

For these reasons I recommend that:

  1. Students use the restroom before their class.
  2. If a student does need to use the restroom, have an adult go with them.
  3. As far as possible, try to have multiple students use the restroom at the same time to limit the number of trips.

Bring your own water

We will also have the same issues with using the drinking fountain as we will with the restrooms, so please bring your own water. Please make sure to bring only water because spillage of other drinks is harder to clean up and can damage equipment.

Dress Policies

Please Come Dressed for Class

Since we have limited access to restrooms, we recommend that that students, as far as possible, come already dressed for class. We hope to build 2 changing booths for those coming straight from school or cannot come ready for other reasons, but these will be hard to monitor.

Coats and Shoes

We do not allow students to wear shoes on mats. For this reason we request they take shoes off when they enter the building so as not to spread dirt and water around the gym. We will have a shoe rack near the entry door. We will also have a coat rack. Please use these. We encourage parents to remove their wet and dirty shoes as well!

Clothes

We do not have uniforms or required outfits, but we do have the following guidelines:

  • Clothes should be loose enough to allow full range of motion, but tight enough to stay in place.
  • Clothes should be modest.
  • Participants will be upside down at times and shirts will fly up at times, so please wear something tight under any T-shirts or similarly loose tops.
  • No Jeans or other tight pants because they limit flexibility.

We recommend one of the following:

  • Leotard with shorts
  • Tight shirt under T-shirt with shorts or sweatpants

Hair

We do not allow students to wear shoes on mats. For this reason we request they take shoes off when they enter the building so as not to spread dirt and water around the gym. We will have a shoe rack near the entry door. We will also have a coat rack. Please use these. We encourage parents to remove their wet and dirty shoes as well!

No Dangly Jewellery

Necklaces, dangly earrings, and other loose jewellery is dangerous and easily lost or damaged. Please remove before class. This also goes for belts and loose items in pockets, watches, and even some rings.
